Virtual breast feeding support

Anywhere with anyone by arrangement

My breast feeding support service is a private service, separate from my midwifery care. Therefore, in my private role as a Breast Feeding Supporter, I do collect a fee (this does not apply to my postnatal clients).

Breast feeding is a natural and enjoyable way to connect and bond with your baby. We know that exclusively feeding for up to six months provides your baby a balanced diet and immune protection. Not all women will find this comes easily though, and conflicting advice can help to muddy the waters.

Usually your midwife is your first support for breast feeding. Sometimes a lactation consultant may be recommended, who can visit you at home, or see you in their clinic. These options are usually all you will need for breast feeding. Sometimes though, women want more support or are unable to access this support, and then after six weeks of postnatal care, a lot of this support can also be lost as visits drop off.

I am therefore pleased to offer mamas breastfeeding support during the recommended exclusive breastfeeding period of 0-6 months. With a virtual support appointment we connect online so I can see and assess your breast feeding. This is a whole picture support service which will include:

  • discussing you and your baby's relevant history

  • identifying your baby's current pattern of feeding

  • working to establish whether we can enhance the feeding patterns

  • observing, and if needed, adjusting your breast feeding technique

  • how to wind and settle your baby

  • managing engorgement and causes/prevention of mastitis

* (information doesn't replace advice from other providers of your care).

This is not an exhaustive list as everyone has their own situational needs, but these are key points usually covered in breast feeding support.

All virtual support appointments will be followed up with a complimentary check in for progress. If you are having a complicated time, you may need more than one appointment. This can be determined by you.

I am not a 'lactation consultant' as have not chosen to undertake this accreditation. I do teach breastfeeding professionally and if I cannot help you, I will recommend where to seek help. Whether you want to prepare antenatally, or want some help with your baby now, contact me to see what we can do for you.
